When developing a commercial vehicle, early decisions often determine what is possible later. That is why we’re the partner you should involve at the drawing board, before the specification gets written. We work with vehicle manufacturers or subsystem manufacturers from the start, when the real performance gains are still within reach. Gains that last for the whole life of the vehicle.
There are reasons why we get chosen. SKF Vertevo has decades of powertrain and wheel end experience. We pioneered the truck hub unit in the 90s. Our capability and access to the latest technology lets us push performance to eliminate friction. And our vast global footprint, leading aftermarket and service network make us a partner that is always close at hand.
Built for the heaviest demands. Proven over decades.
Bearings in commercial vehicles need high durability to sustain long mileage, high loads, harsh road conditions, temperature extremes and contamination. SKF Vertevo has built its CV business specifically for these conditions. As a result, we hold a leading position in the market.
From engine to wheel end, built to keep trucks moving.
A truck earns its money on the road. Downtime is not an option, and the demands on commercial vehicle components keep going up. As electrification arrives in a segment that has been ICE-dominant for a century, SKF Vertevo stands ready.
In conventional powertrains, our roller bearings and ball bearings serve automated manual transmissions, final drives, propeller shafts and PTO units. In electric and hybrid drives, traction motors run at higher speeds and induce electrical currents, which we counter with optimized ceramic hybrid ball bearings and conductive brush rings.
In wheel ends, our answer starts with integration. Moving from single bearings, assembled one by one on the line, to fully unitised, pre-adjusted solutions that leave the factory sealed, greased and ready for a million kilometres of service. That is how we drive the development towards increased robustness, longer service life and lower friction.
Saving 857 litres per truck on wheel-ends alone.
Wheel bearings might not look like a fuel-saving opportunity. But on a fully loaded 6×4 heavy-duty truck and trailer, with twelve wheel positions in total, upgrading to SKF Vertevo's low-friction wheel ends saves 857 litres of diesel per year.
This is shown in our measured results against standard wheel bearings in the market. For a fleet, numbers like these add up with every vehicle. And wheel ends are just the start.
01
Total cost of ownership
When friction is reduced an engineering success becomes a business case. Fuel, tyres, service intervals: every position that runs cooler and smoother extends the life of everything around it.
02
Uptime and durability
In commercial vehicles, the bearings that keep working will pay for themselves. We engineer sealed solutions built to go well beyond a million kilometres in service.
03
Electrification
The CV powertrain is changing. As trucks and buses electrify, existing bearing applications face new demands, such as higher speeds, new heat profiles, and electrical currents that conventional bearings weren't designed to handle. We’re developing robust rolling bearing solutions, hybrid ball bearings and conductive grounding solutions for these new EV and HEV platforms.
04
Harsh conditions
Contamination, corrosion, heavy loads on unpaved roads. Commercial vehicle bearings fail where conditions are worst. We engineer for that reality, not ideal conditions.
A truck built in one country might need service on another continent. The same model might travel through sub-arctic winters, monsoon rains and dry desert spells. SKF Vertevo's aftermarket offering is designed to support you wherever you’re heading. This way, the same engineering knowledge that shaped the original component follows the vehicle.
